Roller Blinds

Roller blinds are a popular window dressing idea, and they can be lowered and raised either manually or with a motorised mechanism. They have quite a few restrictions though, including not being customisable to special shaped windows, being prone to fading, and limited in options.

However, if you’re looking for a basic window dressing idea, then roller blinds might be for you.

DIY Shutters

One of the many great things about DIY shutters is that they check off all of the most important things listed above. Our DIY shutter are very affordable since we’re sending you them ready-to-fit to install yourself

We offer every type of plantation shutters available, in a variety of sizes, shapes, materials, and colours so they’re incredibly versatile and can fit in perfectly in any home.
There are shutter styles that are great for large windows, and ones that are better suited for smaller windows. There are even blackout shutters for your bedroom, so that you’re never woken up by the sun shining in your eyes again!

One of the biggest selling points of DIY Shutters is not only do they do a great job of letting in the light when you want and blocking it out when you don’t, but they act as a natural light dimmer switch, allowing you to adjust the light levels in small increments throughout the day. They can also help regular airflow when you have your windows open!

Unlike the other window dressing listed, shutters are also easy to maintain, cleaning is as simple as a quick wipe with a cloth. The slats don’t move either, so unlike venetian blinds the job is a doddle!

Venetian Blinds

These horizontal blinds may seem similar to shutters, and sometimes the slats are even made from wood, but this window dressing idea has some key differences. A big difference is that they’re often held together with thin strings, therefore they’re a lot less stable than plantation shutters.

Shutters are mounted into a frame that is installed into your window for a perfect fit, whereas venetian blinds are mounted from above the window. Venetians are more likely to blow around when it’s windy outside and are notoriously fiddly to clean.

This window dressing can come in various materials, including plastic, so they work out as a cheap option.

Curtains

Curtains are a very common and popular way to cover windows. In many parts of the world, they’re the standard, but they aren’t perfect. They can easily get tugged on by pets or children, they stain easily, they harbour dust and allergens, and most of them don’t do a great job of completely blocking out the light.

You can get cheap curtains, but a quality pair that are made-to-measure will probably cost more than our custom-manufactured plantation shutters. Once you take that into consideration, it’s hard to justify curtains when shutters are so much easier to clean, and will last a lot longer.

On the plus side for curtains, they are available in such a wide range of options, so if it’s just style your looking for, curtains tick the box.

Frosted Window Film

Some people like the look of a frosted windows, and the easiest way to achieve this is with frosted window film. It’s not the same as frosted glass, but it’s an alright alternative that will cost you a lot less than installing new windows!

Popular in the 70s and 80s, many see frosted window film as a dated window dressing idea.
