One of the best things about shutters is just how customisable they are. Whether it’s colour, style, material, slat size, or otherwise, there are a wealth of options to choose from. And while we like to keep things simple, it’s understandable if some of the shutter jargon gets a little confusing. We often get asked about mid-rails. What are they and why choose one? Well, let’s get right to it, shall we?
What is a Mid-Rail?
Also known as a divider rail, a mid-rail is a 76mm wide horizontal bar set across full height shutters. If you decide on mid rail shutters, it will be the same colour as the rest of the shutters, so you don’t have to worry about it sticking out like a sore thumb.
Why Choose a Mid-Rail?
Mid rail shutters have a few advances over other shutter blinds. Firstly, they allow for separate slat control on the top and bottom sections. This grants excellent control over both light and privacy. Secondly, a mid-rail is the perfect solution with rails or transoms running across windows. We recommend positioning your mid rail to line up with your transoms to create uniformity between your windows and shutters.
While mid-rails are optional, they are necessary for windows taller than 180cm to ensure the structural integrity of the shutters. It’s also worth noting that mid-rails are only available with full height shutters.
